Friday, April 7: 85th Anniversary of Bellingrath Gardens and Home. Walter and Bessie Bellingrath developed the beautiful property now known as Bellingrath Gardens from a rustic fishing camp purchased in 1918. Over the years, more and more friends and family members would venture to the property to admire the gardens. On April 6, 1932, Walter Bellingrath placed an ad in the Mobile Register, inviting the public to tour the Gardens the next day. The Bellingraths were stunned by the response: Nearly 4,700 visitors arrived, causing a huge traffic jam. The couple decided to keep the Gardens open to the public and to charge a small admission fee. Life at their idyllic Fowl River retreat would never be the same. To celebrate this milestone, guests are invited to enjoy the Gardens on April 7, 2017, at a special admission rate of $8.50 per person. Other surprises will be in store! Join us on this special day in the history of Bellingrath Gardens and Home.

Saturday, April 8: Easter Egg Hunt on the Great Lawn at Bellingrath Gardens and Home. Hop on down to Bellingrath for a morning of Easter fun with our annual Easter Egg Hunts! Thousands of Easter eggs will be scattered across the Great Lawn for children to collect, and there will be plenty of candy and treats for little ones to fill their Easter baskets. There will be three hunts for different age groups. After the egg hunts, families are encouraged to enjoy other Easter activities within the Gardens. Admission is $13 for adults and $7.50 for children ages 5-12 will be charged. Children ages 4 and younger are always admitted free. For details, visit
