Saenger Theater

Imagine yourself in this theater, sitting in one of those cozy red velvet chairs, smelling the aroma of freshly popped, heavily buttered {because who wants light butter?} popcorn while one of these famous movies are on the big screen. You can see it, right? That vision is pretty nice, right?  Well, mark your calendars for Summer Movies at the Saenger!

Breakfast at Tiffanys

The series will begin Sunday, July 16 at 3 pm with “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.  {As if this movie needs a description.}  This 1961 Comedy/Drama/Romance stars Audrey Hepburn as a young New York socialite that charms a young man (George Peppard) who has moved into her apartment building, but her past threatens to get in the way.

 

 

Blazing Saddles

July 23 at 3 pm –Blazing Saddles”, 1974, Comedy/Western - Mel Brooks directs this film about a western town where a corrupt politician appoints a new sheriff who become major adversaries.  Starring Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder.

 

Color Purple

July 30 at 3 pm – “The Color Purple”, 1985, Drama - Based on the novel by Alice Walker, screenplay by Menno Meyjes and directed by Steven Spielberg.  A story in which a black Southern woman struggles to find her identity after suffering abuse from her father and others over four decades.  Starring Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey.

 

 

Willie

August 6 at 3 pm – “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”, 1971, Fantasy/Musical -  Charlie receives a golden ticket to a candy factory, where there's an adventure in every turn.  Starring Gene Wilder, Jack Albertson and Peter Ostrum.

 

 

North by

August 13 at 3 pm – “North by Northwest”, 1959, Mystery/Action - A hapless New York advertising executive is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies and is pursued across the country while he looks for a way to survive. Starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason.

GWTW

August 20 at 3 pm – “Gone with the Wind”, 1939, Drama/Romance – A manipulative woman and a roguish man conduct a turbulent romance during the American Civil War and Reconstruction periods.  Starring Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh and Thomas Mitchell.


All shows begin at 3 pm at Mobile's Historic Saenger Theatre. Doors open at 2:30 pm.   Tickets are general admission: $6 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under and $3 for 60+ senior.  All movies will be seated on a first-come-first-served basis. Tickets are sold at the box offices and are not available for online purchasing.

Tickets can be purchased at either the Saenger Theatre Box Office located at 6 South Joachim Street, Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. or at the Mobile Civic Center Box Office located at 401 Civic Center Drive, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  The Saenger Box Office will open at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the movie.  The main concession stand downstairs will be open for snacks and beverages such as popcorn, sodas, candy, beer, wine and mixed drinks.
