Even during the cold season, Bellingrath Gardens is filled with blooms and beauty! Mobile visitors are invited to join the Winter Wednesdays series in January and February for sessions on gardening, history and more.

Here’s the schedule:

January 27: Birding on the Gulf Coast

Dr. Mark LaSalle, Director of the Pascagoula River Audubon Center, will tell guests how to identify birds along the Gulf Coast and how they can participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count. Weather permitting, he will lead a bird walk through the Gardens.

February 3: John S. Sledge’s “The Mobile River” Lecture and Book Signing

Local historian and author John S. Sledge will discuss his new book, “The Mobile River.” His book is the first-ever narrative history of this important American watercourse and is also a historical saga of the river and the colorful characters that inhabit its shores and basin. After his presentation, Sledge will sign copies of his book, which will be available to purchase in the Gift Shop.

February 10: Raising Roses

Linda Guy, longtime Rosarian of Bellingrath’s award-winning Rose Garden, will show guests how to care for roses year-round and will give a demonstration of rose pruning techniques. Questions are encouraged! Books and supplies will be available in the Gift Shop.

February 17: Getting ready for Spring at Bellingrath Gardens

Executive Director Dr. Bill Barrick and Nursery Manager Chuck Owens will share their secrets of creating one of the prettiest seasons at Bellingrath. Find out how they grow their Easter lilies to be ready just in time for Easter! Guests will also get a preview of Bellingrath’s 2016 Festival of Flowers display. An exclusive tour of the Bellingrath greenhouses is included in the program.

February 24: Trailer McQuilkin’s “Wildflowers” Lecture and Book Signing
