We are over the moon about the opening date for GulfQuest! September 26 can't get here soon enough!
In the meantime, here's just a touch of what you'll get to experience!
1. There's an incredible orientation film that will give you goosebumps. It's a high-definition, multi-media presentation that uses stunning {and we mean S T U N N I N G} panoramic images and authentic voices of people along the Gulf Coast. It truly captures the character and culture of our nation's southeastern doorway to the world.
2. Treasures, the museum store, is an exhibit unto itself. You'll feel you have come upon a sunken Spanish Galleon, with floors of planks and sand littered with spilled jewels and a ceiling that resembles the surface of the water.
3. The flags in GulfQuest's logo are nautical signal flags that spell out the museum's name. Every bit of GulfQuest is a learning opportunity. Even the restrooms - you'll have to trust us on this one!
4. Get ready to meet the Pelican Girls. They were 23, “young and well-bred” women who were brought to Mobile from Paris in 1704 as prospective brides for the single Canadian and French settlers. In one special exhibit, you will gaze in to an old mirror, where the ghostly images of two French women tell their stories.
5. While dining at GulfQuest's cafe, 'The Galley', you'll be able to keep track of the shipping traffic coming and going through the Port of Mobile with the exhibit, 'Ship Trackers'. There is a 15-second delay, so it’s almost real-time. It will show you the name of the vessel, country of origin, etc.
